Surfside

The fact we have been coming back here for the last 8 years, and will be booking again for next year, probably says it all. The house is so well equipped with everything you could want. The owners really want you to have a great time. Location, location, location - simply stunning.

We've regularly visited Croyde Bay over the last 20 years and stayed many times in the 'Out of the Blue' houses. This was the first time in number 5 (Surfside). It is a lovely house, ideally located for the beach and is clean and very well equipped. We were left useful 'goodies' on our arrival which were appreciated.

lovely place. the view is to die for our dog loved it there. a couple of minutes walk to the beach a mile walk into the tiny village. 3 pubs there only went to the pub once. we had our own pub garden (the patio ). over looking the sea booking for next year.

Beautiful location with outstanding views. Fully equipped and comfortable house. Everything you need has been laid on by the owners. 15 minute walk to the village but excellent pubs and food available when you get there. Parking space is a bonus but on 2 occasions random cars were parked in it causing additional hassle. Rear door was broken prior to arrival and this was reported by the cleaner, nobody ever came to fix it. We had our dog with us and the nearest dog friendly beach is only a 10 minute drive at Staunton Sands. We would visit the property again.

Croyde Bay was an amazing place, and Surfside was a very comfortable base, in a brilliant location. Watching the sunset every evening was a must! Cluck Chicken is amazing, and Biffin's breakfast bagels are the best.

This was our second visit to Surfside and we absolutely loved it. Amazing views, great showers and very comfortable beds, with a patio area to sit and watch the waves. The house is very well equipped, the nespresso machine and pods, along with the tablets for the washing machine and dishwasher were small touches that made a difference. It's easy access to the beach and the pubs and restaurants of Croyde, but so peaceful. We would definitely stay again and can't wait to come back!

We had a glorious week at Surfside, the accommodation was spacious and very well equipped with all mod cons but very welcoming and comfortable. The outside patio and subsequent views of Croyde bay are absolutely glorious and ever changing. So much to watch and admire. Swimming and boarding was exhilarating and walking to Baggy Point gives a different perspective, even cycling to Saunton Sands was very achievable . A delightful place to stay, thoroughly recommended.

Just returned from a fabulous week staying in Surfside. Couldn't ask for a better location and the view and interior are even better than the photos. Very well equipped. A perfect holiday, so much so we re booked for next year as soon we got home! Thank you

A fabulous week in beautiful Croyde, our happy place and a step up from the caravan! Loved staying in this lovely property. What a wonderful location and watching the sea from the balcony was just mesmerising. Walking up to Baggy Point is always a highlight and 3 year old walked all the way. Day trip to Ilfracombe was great - beach tunnels worth a visit and a boat trip. Don't forget to have an ice cream from the village.

Thank you for the oppurtunity to stay at this perfect place. I'm in the middle of a treatment and these views and this location have been game changing for our happiness and mental wellbeing. We can't wait to return.

We would recommend ocean cottages as the team are extremely efficient and provide all information required for a relaxing stress free holiday. The property used was exactly as described / shown on the website.

Wow! This is an amazing find! A beautiful place to stay - the view alone is fantastic. We loved sitting out on the deck (complete with a fire pit), watching the surfers, hearing the waves, seeing the sunset. Laying in bed at night and hearing the sounds of the waves was so peaceful and the moon across the bay was beautiful. The spec of the cottage is superb. High end throughout, from gorgeous feather pillows and duvets with Sophie Allport and Orla Kiely bedlinen to a Nespresso machine and a Nutribullet in the kitchen. Fluffy towels, soft rugs, leather sofas....this really was a treat and so not like any holiday home. And made more so by the welcome bottle of Prosecco, cookies, milk and selection of coffee and teas. Walking into Croyde took 15 minutes and there we found pasties and cream teas, pub food and restaurants, gift shops and the local craft market. Climbing the hill you could look out across the bay, or wander along the National Trust path to explore Baggy Point and head along the coast to Woolacombe. Loved our stay. We will be back!

We have been coming to Surfside for a number of years and are already booked for next year. That may say it all. The views, access to the beach and coastal path and wonderful surf is second to none. The house has everything you need and the owners seem to go above and beyond to ensure you have a great stay ensuring there is plenty of everything and lots is added extras. Ocean cottages have always been great to book with and always answers any questions promptly.

Our visit to Surfside was for our mum/grandma's 89th birthday.we all loved it! Everything you need for a great stay was provided. Shame the weather was so awful but the surf was amazing to watch. Would be more than happy to stay again. Thankyou

Perfect location overlooking the sea , really easy access to the beach , lovely well equipped and cosy apartment with everything you need. The master bedroom is fabulous where you can hear the ocean and peaceful and chilled. You are just on the outskirts which is great as not in the thick of the holiday parks but you are still just a short walk from the village. Fabulous walks to baggy point . A couple of tips , make sure you either have an online shop or organise a big shop as the supermarkets in the area are basic . Also book restaurants well in advance at the moment as it is really hard for them as they are short staffed in many places. Do not want to leave this magical place !

First change of scenery in 18months and how glorious- lovely and snuggly warm home with extra blankets and rugs which makes it more homely than a 'usual' holiday house. Weather was typical English with high winds/rain and drizzle but surfing everyday and went horse riding at Woolacombe riding stables - which was a real treat, despite being thrown off on the beach and the horse running away... but was still smiling despite this as I was not an experienced rider and they were all so kind and professional. Lots of extra bits and bobs like coffee pods/complimentary wine and dog blankets/rugs and toys and even emergency dog food it needed. No need to bring cooking extras like oil, spices etc Highly recommend and high spec.

What a great place to 'staycation' - super location, excellent standards, really well appointed. We had a fantastic time and hope to return soon.

The sounds of the waves on the beach and the rocks, the gulls floating past, the surfers doing their thing and the hundreds on the beach at times enjoying the outdoor life, and the sunsets all viewed from our bedroom window, our living area and the outside patio area overlooking the Croyde beach, the estuary and Clovelly side of that estuary, and the Atlantic waves breaking, all will live with us. No 5 Out of the Blue is superb, very well equipped with all you need for a self catering for 4 adults and 2 others who would share the bunk beds room. It was immaculately clean and presented when we arrived, plus the greeting package which was very welcome. In fact we could not fault it at all, with its position overlooking the beach making the patio area outside seating area for meals, drinks, sunbathing a bonus worth paying that extra for. It has "high end " TV system, microwave, cooker , the showers were excellent (having "outside the front door " shower before entry to the house is a real bonus as is the one on the ground floor immediately inside ). Although the technical working of the high end microwave and the BT TV system were a little challenging to get fully functional activity from, this is not a criticism as it shows the attention to detail and quality that the owners have given. It should be pointed out that the place has immediate access to the beach via the slipway, and is only a 15 minute walk into Croyde itself to reach the places to eat and shop. Croyde Village is as unspoilt as it can be as a surfers and vacationers Hot spot and the beach is supervised by the RNLI all day in the vacation season. We can comment most positively on the organisation that the Ocean Cottages have provided for this vacation, informative, accurate and clear instructions at every step giving us a fantastic vacation week, thanks.

We had an amazing weekend away for my husbands 40th birthday. This apartment did not disappoint. The view was incredible from both the front room and the master bedroom. The apartment was exceptionally clean and with all the home comforts you could need. We will be back again!

A perfect half term break, fabulous property with stunning views, very impressed with everything and would love to come again!

My new wife and I spent a week here after getting married in Braunton and Croyde. 

Being surfers the location was perfect. The house has everything you could want, either as a couple of surfers or a family.

The view from the decking, or from the bed is almost worth the price alone. 

I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

The house was lovely. Very comfortable, and the kitchen was especially well kitted out. The main attraction is the view, its amazing.

Lovely holiday cottage

My family and I have stayed here twice now and we would gladly go again. A beautiful house with a terrace looking right onto the beach. Perfect for surfing and the beach, but just as much for just relaxing with a glass of wine and watching the waves. Croyde is lovely too, with some nice pubs and good coastal walks. Highly recommended.

We had a great time! The beds were very comfy. We also had a great time body-boarding in the sea and walking on the beach. Super location and we would love to stay here again sometime! :-)

What fantastic views from a very well equipped and clean holiday home. To be able to walk through bluebell paths and then finish off on the lovely sandy beach of Croyde has made our stay fantastic. Thank you so much.

Such a lovely sunny weekend celebrating Ethan's 13th birthday - his first time surfing - absolutely loved it!! Accommodation perfect - everything we needed is here. We arrived stressed and left totally chilled. Thank you :)

We have had a fantastic 5 nights at Surfside. Even with the chillier March weather this home is great. Every mod con you could possibly need, with super heating to keep you cosy. Very comfortable beds and very clean through out. You can walk straight onto the beach at low tide over the rocks and onto a lovely sandy beach. We sat and watched our son surf passed the balcony from the warmth of the lounge. As we went the weekend before Easter everything was just opening up. Lovely cafe opposite the house, great for lunch but no dogs allowed in cafe but are allowed in the gardens. Lots of eating places in Croyde all of which are good and most dog friendly. This is great holiday for all plenty to do even with the British weather. Highly recommended for everyone, from ease of booking, accommodation and location all fantastic

We’ve had a really fantastic week in the this lovely house. Very comfortable and well equipped. Only downer was that we didn’t discover the lock up cupboard until the very end of our stay!

Weather was beautiful and we really enjoyed body boarding and the kids learned to surf! Great access to the sea and loved swimming in the bay. Beautiful sunset views. Fell in love with Croyde.

Everything was great from the ease of the on line booking and all correspondence. We had a 5 night stay at the end of March. The weather was extremely kind to us, although there wouldn’t of been any problem if had rained non stop. The accommodation has everything you require for a great time. Everything was spotlessly clean throughout, the beds very comfortable. You couldn’t get a better location in Croyde or anywhere else. You have direct access to the beach at low tide by climbing over the rocks. Our mini dachshund made it! I would highly recommend for families or couples .

Our first visit to Croyde but definitely not our last! Surfside is in arguably one of the best locations for surfing- its name is very apt as there is a shortcut giving direct access to the beach, and there's nothing to spoil the view between the lovely terrace and the sea, brilliant! The cottage was clean, modern, comfortable and well equipped, we had everything we needed; we especially loved the coffee machine. The walks, some of which went directly from the cottage offered breathtaking scenery, and at the end of the day Croyde village, which is also walking distance soon became our favourite place to eat and drink. Thank you for a brilliant holiday - we will be back.

Had the most amazing stay, weather was perfect and this accommodation is the best we've ever stayed in within the UK.

We stayed here in Jan and the beginning of Feb for two long weekends. We were lucky with the weather, view fabulous, accommodation excellent - excellent modern living & cleaned thoroughly. Never get bored of the views, waking up to them is so special, reckon this will be a regular retreat. Meal at The Thatch nice for lunch and family meal. The cafe at Putsborough beach is perfect.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this modern, clean, cosy, well equipped apartment and a big thank you to The Ocean cottages team who were helpful, and attentive. There are many things to enjoy about staying here, but sitting on the balcony, listening to the waves and watching the sun setting over the bay will live long in the memory. If you're going to stay by the sea then you might as well do it properly.

Whilst I'd love to keep this apartment a secret, I also feel the need to tell everyone how beautiful the apartment and location is! The house is well equipped with everything you need, the tea and coffee facilities are a nice touch after a long journey! The view is breathtaking and the patio area provides hours of relaxing with a BBQ and wine watching the surfing. The apartment is a stones throw away from the beach so lots of lovely evening beach walks we enjoyed by all! The house is lovely and spacious and the children loved having their en- suite bathroom! We loved the house, and the location and plan to come back to this beautiful place year after year, after year! 5 star!!

There is part of me that didn't want to write this review, the selfish part that wants to keep this venue a secret, so it can be our little holiday get away. However in the spirit of the human kindness I will let everyone now know just how great this place is.... Firstly the home is modern and spotless with an array of fixtures and fittings that look like they have come from a Kirstie Allsopp TV special. It has everything a family needs, the ensuites, the washing machine, the wetroom for the just back from the beach "de-sanding" - everything. Next is the location, in my opinion there is none better. You wake up to the sound of the sea, you spend all day on the beach (which is very literally a stones throw from the back of the house) and then you go to sleep to, yep you've guessed it, the sound of the sea. For a family having a permanent base so close to soft sand and roaring surf means that trips to the beach don't require the usually packing and unpacking of an army like kit bag. If you forget or need something, who cares, the house is 30 seconds away. Croyde itself is a beautiful place to be, there are wonderful walks, quaint tea rooms (one opposite the house) and of course surfing! There are also pubs within walking distance for when you need that holiday drink. All in all this house is the most perfectly set up and located holiday home you could ever wish for. I could go on for another twenty paragraphs but I think you already get the idea that for me, you can stick your Costa dels where the English sun don't shine. I'll be back here sooner rather than later.
