Driftwood
Description
Driftwood is a stunning retreat that is sure to please. All the interiors have a real 'wow' factor and there are lovely 'surprises' throughout the property. Care has been taken to come up with comfortable and imaginative interiors that allow for an easy flow for groups and families, while still creating small individual spaces for relaxation.
Living/Dining/Cooking
The property centres around a large open plan kitchen/dining/living room with a stunning double height ceiling over the living area and a mezzanine overlooking the space. The chef- quality kitchen is a well thought out area benefitting from granite countertops, a large Smeg range cooker and a double door American fridge freezer. The Belfast sink overlooks the garden and the island is clad with reclaimed wood from Indonesian wooden boats. All of the units have deep storage drawers with clever internal drawers to maximise the storage space in this well stocked kitchen.
The living area is a lovely, bright and inviting space where the family can gather to plan their day and come together in the evening to share their experiences around the large dining table. The bi-fold doors open straight on to a large slate terrace - providing real inside/outside living.
The three sofas in the living room area provide ample and comfortable seating. There is a large TV cleverly hidden behind the surfing artwork for movie and TV viewing.
A little snug has been created under the stairs, with a light, to create a reading and relaxing area - creating a private space while still part of the group. The statement staircase, with a bookcase (filled with books and games for all ages) runs along the full wall, leading its way to a balcony mezzanine overlooking the open plan living area and providing an additional seating area.
The bookcase is also sure to delight as it 'hides a secret'! A hidden doorway, disguised as part of the bookcase, leads into the impressive master bedroom.
Sleeping
There are 4 bedrooms in total, the master bedroom enjoys beautiful views overlooking the hills, a comfortable sofa and TV/DVD, plus contemporary en-suite bathroom. Three further bedrooms are found downstairs: The first room off the hallway (to the front of the property) provides sleeping for 3 guests with a single bed at the top and double underneath. The next bedroom is a double room with an en-suite toilet. Both of these bedrooms have large closets for storage, contemporary and beautifully thought out interior design schemes and small TV/DVDs. The final double bedroom has an en-suite shower room. This calm and relaxing room cleverly mixes rustic charm with a comfortable iron bed, has large closets and French doors that open onto the garden.
Bathing
The family bathroom, found at the end of the hallway downstairs is bright with lots of storage and has a large walk in shower with both a hand held and wall shower options, shower stool and underfloor heating. The master bedroom en-suite has underfloor heated slate tiles, a free-standing bath, extra-large shower, double sinks and an enclosed toilet. Bedroom 2 has an en-suite with a shower and bedroom 4 has an en-suite with a wc and wash basin.
Outside
The exciting features of this property don't stop inside! The outside areas have been thoughtfully created to provide areas to relax and escape. The large slate terrace provides an extension to the living space with fully retractable bi-fold doors giving real inside/outside living. There is a large outside settee with comfortable cushions for relaxing at any time of the day and the clever contemporary garden room with a day bed, home office and bi-fold doors (currently not available for use during covid-19).
There is also a laundry/systems room with a stacked washer and drier (with a pull-out folding table), small 'extra fridge' and additional storage. This room has been cleverly thought out with a fold out interior drying rack for wetsuits etc. There is also a coal BBQ provided and driveway parking for 2 cars.

Reviews
Driftwood is a wonderful property enjoyed by our extended family. Centrally located in beautiful Croyde the cottage is very well equipped with great bedrooms and bathrooms. The open plan living is a great social space and the availability of children's toys, wetsuits and beach equipment were very welcome. We would definitely recommend the property and will definitely consider a return visit.
We stayed at Driftwood for three weeks & it was absolutely perfect for our extended stay. We kept commenting on how clever the renovations were to maximise the space. The decor was clean & 'beachy' & the high ceiling really made the space feel big & airy. The beds were comfy & rooms decorated beautifully. The kitchen was well equipped & the hidden book case room…what fun!!! My husband worked & the little summer house in the garden was perfect as an office. Brilliant location to the village, pub & beach & yet tucked away enough that it wasn't noisy at all. We would definitely stay here again!
Great property. The inside is like the Tardis - plenty of room to sit back and relax. Great living space and great bedrooms, comfy and larger than average. Some quirky elements that added to the splendour of the property!
My 3 generation family enjoyed a sunny week in this delightful spot. The admin all worked flawlessly and our house was presented and equipped to a high standard. The location is great for the village and beach. Both are easy walks but we did one car run each day with the boards, wetsuits etc. Local pubs and restaurants are good. Blue Groove is great. We'll be back!
Enjoyed our week at Driftwood, our 2nd visit. Making special memories spending time together with 3 generations of our family.
Comfortable, spacious, weather has been mixed but hasn't spoiled our enjoyement.
I won a weekend break at Driftwood as part of Ocean Cottages keyworker competition. We have enjoyed a lovely stay in this wonderful property and we were incredibly lucky with the weather too. We loved all the hidden surprises - the book case is amazing - a book lovers dream. Thank you for a delightful stay.
first and foremost we had a lovely family holiday, fabulous location, wonderful beaches. House in general was a good family size however, broken outdoor furniture that needed cleaning, inside the house needed further cleaning on arrival (a new hoover would help with this issue) due to sand and crumbs in the sofa. all sofa's looked tired but the cream fabric sofa in particular was very stained. staining from previous leak in bedroom looked unsightly, front garden needed pruning. it was disappointing not to have access to the summer house, as this was one of the reasons we chose this property, kitchen not fully stocked although fully understand the COVID situation.
The supposed deep clean left much to be desired.Due to the fact we could not enter the property until after 6 o'clock we expected much better cleanliness. The mezzanine flooring which held the master bedroom left the two bedrooms underneath open to noise from above, even just moving around. With a waste water pipe in one room sleep was impossible without earplugs. We have stayed in another property on your books Longboards, much better.
Roomy accommodation in a great location. Everything on hand. Prompt attention if you need assistance. We will be back.
A very well executed conversion has made this former bungalow a modern and comfortable house in which to relax. Great outdoor space. Awesome location.
WE have stayed here before so knew it was a lovely place to stay and in a great location for the village and beach. The whole house was beautifully cleaned with very clear instructions to keep everything safe for vistors around covid. So thank you to the team.
Driftwood is an excellent family holiday home. Lots of space with a great central socialising area. Close to all amenities of Croyde and surrounding beautiful beaches. Thanks
great property for family chirstmas. Excellent location!
A great property for a family holiday! Excellent location!
Mark
This was our first time away with our baby granddaughter and what a lovely place to stay to celebrate this. Looks are deceptive when arriving but once you step inside there is a wonderful feel to the house along with quite enough space. All areas are very tastefully decorated, there is plenty of space in the open plan kitchen, dining, living area and if that is not enough a summer house and outdoor seating. It is a very quiet location but it only takes a few minutes to walk to the local pubs and a few shops. You can walk to the beach in about 10 minutes and if you want to push yourself a walk around baggy point will take about an hour. This house had such a lovely feel to it that we will return next year.
My Mum, Dad and Grandparents all came here with me to stay. We had a rather delightful time! We all slept magnificently. I simply LOVED the secret bookcase door and the sliding picture; they're right out of a mystery novel! I would recommend the walk out to Baggy Point because it isn't too strenuous, and it has a wonderful view at the end. Dunster Castle is also worth a visit (and the quaint little village), even though it is about an hour and a half away from Croyde. Croyde Bay is great for surfing. You can swim there but within the flags (there are fierce undercurrents). It's fun jumping the waves. In Croyde: the Croyde Ice Cream Parlour is AMAZING, go to The Stores for tea and cake, Saltrock is a really nice shop, buy swimsuits from The Beach Hut and on Thursdays there is a lovely little craft market just outside and inside the village hall. We've all had such a nice time. There was a problem with the sliding doors, but it was dealt with very well and swiftly. Thank you!
Loved the hidden bedroom. Really nice house, many thanks
Great house and setting, our favourite place in the UK! Love the bookshelf door and outside area. Great house for a family gathering, loved the outside seating area and inside of the house worked well for us all. We love Croyde and will be back.
Stayed at Driftwood as a celebration of our 25th wedding
anniversary - bringing together our three children and partners.
Our large 'ish' party of 7 adults was certainly accommodated with
ease in this stylish and spacious property. An exceptional job has
been done with the recent refurbishment creating a real holiday
vibe, the open plan living / dining / kitchen area is a
particularly lovely social space where everyone can congregate. We
ate out at the local pubs a few nights but equally enjoyed cooking
ourselves at the property and sitting round the large dining table
playing board games afterwards with a glass of wine or two!
Brilliantly located for the pubs and village centre and only a 10
mins or so to the beach. We enjoyed loads of walking in and around
Croyde and of course Baggy Point is a must if you are visiting
Croyde. The only slight negative would be the fact that the back
garden doesn't catch very much sun so we perhaps didn't enjoy the
outdoor space as much as we would otherwise have done (I accept of
course that nothing can be done about this so just an observation
really). Wouldn't hesitate to return in the future and thank you
for a fabulous week.
Ocean Cottages response:
Thank you for the fabulous review of Driftwood. We are sorry to
hear that you did not experience much sun in the garden, we can
confirm that as the seasons progress this property is blessed with
lots of sunshine and blankets are provided to enjoy the sunny
evenings in the garden to take away the slight chill! We hope that
we can welcome you back to Driftwood in the near future.
The space has allowed all our family to holiday together and create lovely lifelong memories. The closeness to the village amenities (pubs) has been a real positive and we have enjoyed lovely meals at The Thatch and Blue Groove. The surf shop on the corner of the road opposite The Thatch was good value for money and our grown-up children enjoyed a couple of days body boarding. Lots of lovely long walks including Baggy Point which is well worth the effort. Thank you very much.
